High
Point Area Arts Council and United Arts Council
of Greater Greensboro Support the
Quarter-Cent Sales Tax Bond Referendum
Arts
Councils demonstrate leadership role for
non-profit arts industry
Guilford County, NC - April 23,
2008 - Board
members of both the High Point Area Arts
Council and the United Arts Council of Greater
Greensboro unanimously voted to support the
quarter-cent sales tax which goes before
voters on the May 6 bond referendum. While the
proposed sales tax does not guarantee county
funding for the arts, it enhances the chance
that county commissioners will support the joint
Arts Councils' request for $345,000 in the
2008-2009 Guilford County Budget.
Both
Arts Councils agree that taking a leadership
role in the arts industry requires securing
sustained revenue for the arts, examining
alternative revenue sources and developing
stronger partnerships with public governing
bodies. As a partner with Guilford
County, the arts industry can take an
important step to help address the county's
need for additional sources of revenue.
