About the Artist

Denise “NiSi” Lee is a visual artist, poet, performer, and multidisciplinary storyteller, born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her work explores identity, memory, femininity, beauty, resilience, and the stories carried beneath what the world sees. Working primarily in acrylic portraiture, NiSi creates expressive figurative works that center Black women while drawing from personal history, family, popular culture, and the women who shaped her understanding of beauty and selfhood.
NiSi holds both a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Fine Arts degree. Her creative journey, however, has never belonged to a single discipline. Her background includes theatre, acting, cosmetology, makeup artistry, poetry, mentorship, and visual art—experiences that continue to inform the way she approaches…
