Celebrating Community, Culture, and Connection Through the Arts

The High Point Arts Council (HPAC) is committed to creating opportunities where art and culture serve as catalysts for community development, connection, and revitalization. Through meaningful public art initiatives created with, for, and by residents, HPAC celebrates the unique identities, shared histories, cultural traditions, and creative spirit that shape High Point's neighborhoods.

Made possible through a generous 2025 grant from the High Point Community Foundation, HPAC proudly introduces ROOTED: Neighborhood Artist in Residence Program, its inaugural community-based artist residency initiative.

ROOTED brings artists and neighborhood residents together to explore, celebrate, and amplify the stories that define their communities. Through collaborative artmaking, storytelling, and meaningful community engagement, the program honors lived experiences, preserves cultural heritage, and elevates neighborhood voices. Each residency will culminate in a public artwork that reflects the identity, creativity, and collective vision of the participating community.

Rooted in the belief that the arts can inspire lasting change, the program seeks to:

  • Empower Youth: Expand access to creative opportunities and resources that nurture young people's talents, encourage self-expression, and help them reach their full potential.

  • Celebrate and Beautify Neighborhoods: Enrich community spaces through inclusive, resident-driven public art that reflects local culture, history, and neighborhood pride.

  • Strengthen Community Connections: Foster collaboration, belonging, and meaningful relationships among residents, artists, and community partners.

  • Inspire Neighborhood Revitalization: Encourage positive neighborhood investment, strengthen community identity, and contribute to long-term economic vitality through arts and cultural engagement.

Grant funding supports the selected artist's residency fee, community engagement activities, and the creation and completion of the final public artwork.

ROOTED is more than a public art program. It is an investment in people, places, and the stories that connect them, honoring the roots of our neighborhoods while cultivating a more vibrant, connected, and creative future for High Point.
